About Asana
Asana is a work management platform that helps teams plan projects, assign tasks and see who is doing what by when. It was started by Dustin Moskovitz and Justin Rosenstein, who had led engineering at Facebook and wanted to cut the time people spent in status meetings, and it is headquartered in San Francisco.
Teams use Asana for everything from marketing calendars and product launches to client projects and company goals. The same work can be shown as a list, a board, a calendar or a timeline, and managers can roll projects up into portfolios to follow progress across a department.
Key features
- Tasks and projects. Unlimited tasks and projects on every plan, with assignees, due dates, subtasks and comments.
- Views. List, board and calendar views, with timeline and Gantt views from Starter.
- Portfolios, goals and resource management. Unlimited portfolios, company goals and workload planning on Advanced.
- AI Studio. A builder for AI automations in workflows, available from Starter, with additional credits for purchase.
- Guests and security. Unlimited free guests from Starter; SAML, SCIM provisioning and capacity planning on Enterprise; data residency and audit logs on Enterprise+.
- Integrations. Connections with Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Drive, Zoom, Salesforce, Jira, GitHub, Figma and more, plus a public API.
Who it is for
Asana suits small businesses, agencies and departments in larger companies that need a shared place to plan and track work without the developer focus of tools such as Jira. Founders often start on the free plan with a co-founder and move to Starter as the team grows, while enterprises use it for cross-team goals and portfolios.
Pricing at a glance

Things to consider
- The free plan is limited to two users, so most teams need a paid plan quickly.
- Portfolios, goals and resource management are only on Advanced and above.
- AI Studio usage beyond the included amount costs extra credits.
- The pricing page does not mention a free trial of paid plans.
Getting started
- Create a free account and set up your first project from a template.
- Invite a teammate and assign the first tasks.
- Switch between list, board and timeline views to find what suits the team.
- Connect Slack or Microsoft Teams so updates reach people where they work.
- Compare plans on the pricing page before adding more seats.
