About Cursor
Cursor is an AI code editor and coding agent made by Anysphere, Inc. It runs as a desktop editor on macOS, Windows and Linux, and combines a familiar editing experience with an agent that can explain a codebase, plan changes across many files, edit code and help review it before merge.
It is built for the part of software work that is slow without help: finding where to start in an unfamiliar repository, scoping a feature, reproducing a bug and checking a diff. Cursor works with models from several providers, including Anthropic, OpenAI and Google, alongside its own Cursor models.
Key features
- Agent. The agent can explain a codebase, propose improvements and make edits that you review as a diff before keeping them.
- Plan Mode. For larger, multi-file changes, Plan Mode helps scope the work before the agent starts editing.
- Tab completions. Paid individual plans include unlimited tab completions while you type.
- Cloud agents. Agents can run in the cloud, and the Teams plan adds shared cloud agents.
- Bugbot and code review. Bugbot reviews pull requests, and the Teams plan adds agentic code reviews.
- Customisation. Rules, skills, hooks, plugins and MCP servers let teams shape how the agent behaves and what tools it can use.
- Integrations. Cursor connects with GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Bitbucket, JetBrains, Slack and Linear.
- Privacy Mode. When enabled, your code is not used for training, and Cursor has zero data retention agreements with its model providers.
Who it is for
Cursor suits individual developers who write code daily, startup teams that want an agent inside their editor, and engineering organisations that need central billing, SSO and access controls. It is most useful to people who already work in a code editor and are comfortable reviewing diffs; it is not a no-code tool.
Pricing at a glance
Hobby is free, needs no credit card and includes limited Agent requests. Pro costs $20 per month and includes the Cursor models and other models usage pools with unlimited tab completions. Pro Plus costs $60 per month with extended agent limits, and Ultra costs $200 per month with the highest agent limits. In India, a Start plan is listed at ₹649 per month covering the Cursor models pool only. Teams has Standard seats at $40 per user per month and Premium seats at $120 per user per month, with central billing, team privacy mode, usage analytics and SAML/OIDC SSO. Enterprise is priced on request and adds pooled usage, invoice billing, SCIM, audit logs and model and MCP access controls. Usage beyond the included pools is available on demand at API rates. Prices as checked on 7 October 2026; confirm on the vendor's pricing page.
Things to consider
- The free Hobby plan has limited Agent requests, so it is best treated as a trial.
- Included usage depends on which models you choose, and overage is billed on demand; set spending limits if budgets are tight.
- Without Privacy Mode, Cursor may use code data and prompts to improve its features and train models, so check the setting before working on private code.
- Even with your own API key, requests still go through Cursor's backend for prompt construction.
Getting started
- Download Cursor from cursor.com for macOS 12 or later, Windows 10 or later, or Linux, and sign in.
- Open a project folder and ask the agent to explain the codebase.
- Request a small, safe improvement, review the diff and run your project checks.
- Turn on Privacy Mode if needed, and use Plan Mode for larger changes. Plan details are on the pricing page.
