iPhone Duo availability: global release, apps and buyer questions

iPhone Duo availability began on 23 October 2026, when Apple's first foldable iPhone went on sale in more than 70 countries and regions. A second wave of 28 countries and regions follows on 30 October. Prices start at US$1,999 for 256GB.

Our earlier preorder coverage was based on announcements. With the phone now in stores, the questions shift to app behaviour, testing and practical buying checks. This is a source-based guide, not a hands-on review.

iPhone Duo availability and prices

Apple lists storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. The phone runs iOS 27.1.

Local prices, carrier deals and financing differ by country. Apple offers Trade In, Apple Upgrade leasing in some markets and Apple Card Monthly Installments in the US. Compare the full price in your own currency, including tax and any extended warranty, before deciding.

How apps behave folded and unfolded

Unfolded, the 7.6-inch display runs two apps side by side in Split View, a first for iPhone. Users can swap apps, open two windows of the same app and save app pairs.

Folded, the 5.4-inch outer display works like a conventional phone, with features such as Duo Preview for framing photos. Lock Screen controls, the Dock and app navigation move to the side of the screen. The key question for any app is whether it keeps the user's place when the phone changes state.

What developers should test first

Apple says developers can adapt apps with new and updated APIs in the latest SDKs. Its developer news post says optimised apps were available from launch day.

Apple notes the actual viewable area is smaller than the quoted diagonals, so test on hardware or the simulator rather than designing from numbers.

Buyer questions to settle before ordering

Decide whether the larger working area replaces a tablet or laptop task for you. If not, a conventional phone may be the better value.

• Do your essential apps already support Split View and both displays?
• Does your employer's device management support it?
• What would repair of the folding display cost where you live?
• Is your country in the first or second wave?
