Move an ageing application to a supported, maintainable stack in steps, without stopping the business that depends on it.

Older systems often still do valuable work, but they become risky: unsupported versions, security patches that no longer arrive, and changes nobody dares to make. Modernization keeps what works and replaces what holds the business back.
We begin with an assessment of the code, data and hosting, then plan the move in stages so the system keeps running throughout. Typical steps are upgrading PHP and frameworks, separating a front end from the back end, moving to managed hosting, and replacing fragile parts behind a stable interface.
We review the application’s dependencies, deployment process and the workflows that must keep working. The assessment separates urgent compatibility issues from changes that can wait. Each stage has a defined data boundary, verification checklist and rollback approach, so a supported component can replace an older one without assuming the whole system must be rewritten.
The assessment does not include every repair it identifies. A complete rewrite, extensive data cleansing and new business features need their own scope. Any period of downtime or parallel operation is agreed before implementation.
A business could first replace an unsupported reporting module while retaining its order-entry system. Reconciled report totals and verified user access would provide evidence for that stage before the next module changes. This describes a possible migration, not a past client outcome.
Work is quoted after the requirements and acceptance checks are agreed. The handover covers the delivered changes, verification notes and operating instructions for the agreed scope. Further releases and ongoing maintenance are optional and scoped separately.

CakePHP 4.x stopped receiving security fixes on 10 September 2026. This step-by-step checklist covers deprecations, the rector upgrade tool, composer and skeleton changes, the main breaking changes and PHPUnit updates for moving to CakePHP 5.4.
Prepare the scope with this guide: CakePHP 4 security support has ended: a checklist for upgrading to CakePHP 5.4. Its implementation choices should be reviewed for your project.
CodeIgniter 3 is in maintenance mode and CodeIgniter 4 is a rewrite, not a drop-in upgrade. Compare the two versions, see how controllers, models, queries, views and routes translate, and plan a low-risk conversion.
Prepare the scope with this guide: Moving from CodeIgniter 3 to CodeIgniter 4: what changes and how to plan it. Its implementation choices should be reviewed for your project.
Migrate a legacy PHP or CakePHP app to Laravel without a rewrite: one router, a shared database, a signed login bridge, tests first and one module per release.
Prepare the scope with this guide: Moving a legacy PHP or CakePHP application to Laravel: a realistic plan. Its implementation choices should be reviewed for your project.

Version history and reversible changes help plan and review a staged application migration.
Container platform for building, sharing and running applications, including Docker Desktop, Docker Engine, Docker Hub and Docker Scout.
Container builds can provide a repeatable runtime when the migration and hosting scope call for it.
