About Hetzner Cloud

Hetzner Cloud is the public cloud of Hetzner Online, a privately run German hosting company founded in 1997 in Gunzenhausen, Bavaria. Hetzner built its name on dedicated servers and runs its own data centre parks in Nuremberg and Falkenstein in Germany and in Helsinki, Finland. Its cloud adds virtual servers that start in seconds, at prices that have long made it a favourite of developers and small companies watching their bills.

The product range is deliberately compact. There is no managed database or serverless platform; instead you get solid building blocks and an API, and run your own software on top.

Key features

  • Cloud servers. Cost-Optimized and Regular Performance plans with shared vCPUs, and General Purpose plans with dedicated vCPUs, on Intel, AMD or Arm (Ampere) processors.
  • Locations. Nuremberg and Falkenstein (Germany), Helsinki (Finland), Ashburn and Hillsboro (USA) and Singapore.
  • Networking. Private networks, load balancers, floating and primary IPs, and stateful firewalls at no additional cost.
  • Storage. Block storage volumes, snapshots and backups, plus S3-compatible Object Storage in Falkenstein, Helsinki and Nuremberg.
  • DNS and one-click apps. DNS zones are managed from the same console, and images such as Docker CE, WordPress, Nextcloud, GitLab and Coolify set up common software in one step.
  • Automation. The hcloud CLI, a REST API, Go and Python libraries, a Terraform provider, a Packer plugin and Kubernetes cloud-controller and CSI drivers are maintained by Hetzner on GitHub.

Who it is for

Hetzner Cloud suits developers, start-ups, agencies and IT teams who are comfortable administering Linux servers and want predictable costs, especially for workloads hosted in the European Union. Teams that need Kubernetes typically run their own clusters with Hetzner's integrations, since there is no managed Kubernetes service. Anyone expecting a full catalogue of managed services, as on the largest clouds, will find much less here.

Pricing at a glance

Each server has an hourly rate and a monthly price cap, and you never pay more than the cap. After a price adjustment that took effect on 15 June 2026, the smallest shared Intel/AMD plan (CX23) is EUR 5.49 a month in Germany and Finland, the smallest Arm plan (CAX11) is EUR 5.99, and the dedicated-vCPU CCX13 is EUR 42.99, excluding VAT and the IPv4 address. A traffic allowance is included with each server; IPv6 addresses are free. Object Storage has a monthly base price that includes 1 TB of storage and 1 TB of egress. Prices as checked on 10 October 2026; confirm on the vendor's pricing page.

Things to consider

  • Prices rose in June 2026. For new orders and rescales, several AMD and dedicated-vCPU plans more than doubled; changing a server on older pricing can move it to current prices.
  • Availability can vary. Some Cost-Optimized plans have been shown as currently unavailable on the cloud page; check before planning around them.
  • Billing runs while servers exist. A powered-off server is still billed until it is deleted.
  • Fewer managed services. Databases, queues and Kubernetes control planes are yours to run and patch.

Getting started

  1. Compare plans and locations on the Hetzner Cloud page and create an account.
  2. Create a project in the Hetzner Console, add an SSH key and launch a server.
  3. Attach a firewall and, if needed, a volume, private network or load balancer.
  4. Automate the setup with the hcloud CLI or Terraform, using the documentation.
